To Prime Minister:

I urge you to stop UK banks from funding fossil fuels and the harmful industrial agriculture that's fuelling the climate crisis. You must stop the destruction.

Why is this so important?

UK banks are pouring billions into the industries harming our planet – seemingly profiting from climate change and the devastation it causes.

They currently have free rein to fund these destructive industries as much as they want. Between 2021 and 2023, HSBC caused a shocking £128 billion in climate damages.

This is devastating the lives and rights of women and girls around the world. Why? Because the climate crisis often makes existing gender inequalities worse, with women more likely to experience violence, malnutrition and, sometimes, death.

Tell the Prime Minister to act now. Together, we can do this – for people and for planet.

What are we calling for?

The UK Government must:

  • Introduce a new law to make banks accountable for the environmental damage and human rights abuses they cause.

  • Levy a ‘polluters pay’ tax on banks to discourage their financing of climate destruction, with funds used to support communities after climate disasters and invest in women led solutions.

  • Make it mandatory for banks to report on emissions and publish credible transition plans away from fossil fuels.
